PRESERVES AND PROTECTED OPEN SPACES UNDER THREAT in San Diego
TWO CITY of San Diego CAPITAL PROJECTS in protected areas:
The site is City of San Diego MSCP land and in the Coastal Zone, one of three essential wildlife corridors connecting Carmel Mountain, Los Penasquitos Canyon and Del Mar Mesa Preserves and adjacent to two vernal pool complexes. It would require extensive grading.
The site, on 47th Street in a semi-rural residential area between Fairmount and Euclid avenues, is environmentally sensitive land, adjacent to an MSCP preserve, features steep slopes and has a relatively narrow entrance-and-exit route.

COUNTY housing projects in high fire areas
A 550 home project planned just north of Safari Park threatens 1100 acres of County protected MSCP protected land in a high fire area.

The 700-acre Otay Ranch Resort Village 13 and 1284-acre Village 14 near Eastlake has been successfully challenged in court by Sierra Club and Center for Biological Diversity. Then Attorney General Javier Baccera also opposed the projects because of fire risk. Outcome is pending.
